It’s recently come to my attention that people think the new Chandra art looks bad or flawed. I think it’s because they don’t understand what’s going on and their mind overreacts negatively to things it doesn’t expect.
I for one really like this art. Her pose is badass, she looks focused on whoever she’s facing, engrossed in her magic and concentrating not to fall into the lava below her. She looks more disciplined than she used to and not as angry or temperamental.
To me, this tells a story of Chandra facing off against an opponent that she can’t afford to get angry at, somebody so dangerous that she can’t lose control. Perhaps another red mage like Sarkhan?
Anyway, I think you can expect a few more art analysis from me in the future if a piece gets this much attention.

Couldn’t have put it better myself.

Jace, Architect of Thought. Some people scoffed at the new incarnation of the planeswalker Jace Beleren. And while he may not be quite as good as he was in his “mind sculpting” days, I got to see him in action today on Cockatrice while I did a little deck testing. Turns out - as I suspected - the new Jace is crazy good. Turns out this Jace is, like most planeswalker cards that bear Mr. Beleren’s name, is Just Another Constructed Essential (I made that up myself. I’m so clever).
